Changes to HLF Our Heritage Programme

The Heritage Lottery Fund will now accept applications for grants from private individuals and commercial ‘for profit’ organisations of up to £100,000 for capital projects under its Our Heritage Programme.

Source: The heritage Alliance Heritage Update 250

With funding from English Heritage, the Joint Committee of the National Amenity Societies’ (JCNAS) - which includes several Alliance members - has today launched a new Heritage Help advice portal, bringing together for the first time the expertise offered by heritage organisations and offering support on saving and caring for historic assets.

The free information service is aimed at local history groups and town and parish councils facing new responsibilities for the care of their historic environment under the recent Localism Act 2011, as well as individual owners of historic properties. The site will include advice on everything from the designation of historic structures or sites to working with listed buildings and conservation areas, applying for grants and forming local groups.

Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture, Communications and the Creative Industries, welcomed the news, saying "Heritage Help is good news. It brings together all that [specialised] knowledge, making it more accessible to local groups caring for their local historic environment and I wish it every success in the future."

East Devon AONB HEAP Project Launched

The East Devon AONB Partnership is taking an innovative approach to explore how the traditional top down model of creating strategic landscape wide Historic Environment Action Plans can be effectively combined with a community led bottom up approach. Funded by English Heritage and led by Wyvern Heritage the project consists of two interrelated strands:
  • A top down Historic Environment Action Plan will be created for the Areas within the existing Landscape Character Assessment building on and enhancing the Landscape Character Assessment Management Guidelines for the AONB.
  • The bottom up approach will be developed for two parishes within the East Devon AONB encouraging the proactive and effective engagement of communities in the active management of historic and archaeological aspects of the AONB.
Working closely with community contacts, the project will complement existing heritage action in the AONB as well as help guide future policy delivery in East Devon. Visit the East Devon AONB website for more information.
