National Heritage Protection Plan progress & consultation plans

The 6 month review on progress of the National Heritage Protection Plan (NHPP) is now available on the English Heritage website.

Covering the period, April - September 2013, the report charts the progress of projects across the sector under seven measures. These include; Foresight, the Protection of Significance, Supporting measures of socio-economic research, capacity building, and engagement with the past. The Activity programme report which provides detail of the English Heritage action plan will be circulated annually in May 2014, in a shorter and more informative format.
Also useful as background to the Review is the Introduction, which explains the purpose of the Plan as a framework within which all can direct resources to the areas of greatest priority and the Framework. The NHPP, as the guiding framework, is of particular importance now that the DCMS consultation on the future of English Heritage asks (Q15) whether the NHPP should form the basis of the business plan for Historic England.

12th April 2014 East Devon AONB Historic Environment Conference

The 2014 East Devon AONB Historic Environment Conference builds on six years of similar annual conferences generated by the East Devon AONB: the Parishscapes Project and the recently completed Peter Orlando Hutchinson Project.

The theme of this year's conference, 'Capturing the Past in the Present' echoes the way in which English Heritage and other organisations tackle the past in our landscape, taking what is actually there today as their point of departure. The presentations at the conference do in fact showcase two strands of current AONB involvement in the the historic environment of East Devon: the HEAP project (Historic Environment Action Plan), featuring Woodbury and Branscombe (financed by English Heritage), and the work on historic orchards that the East Devon Local History Societies Group, meeting under the aegis of the AONB, have carried out in the last three years.

It will be held on Saturday 12 April 2014 at the Norman Lockyer Observatory - Sidmouth. For more information contact visit the East Devon AONB website, or download a booking form.
